Bush Feels Slighted By Obama

WASHINGTON - George W. Bush won't be at Ground Zero with President Obama Thursday in part because he feels his team is getting short shrift in the decade-long manhunt for Osama Bin Laden.
"[Bush] viewed this as an Obama victory lap," a highly-placed source told the Daily News Wednesday.
Bush's visit to the rubble after the 9/11 attacks was the emotional high point of his presidency, but associates say the invitation to return with his successor was a non-starter.
"He doesn't feel personally snubbed and appreciates the invitation, but Obama's claiming all the credit and a lot of other people deserve some of it," the source added.
"Obama gave no credit whatsoever to the intelligence infrastructure the Bush administration set up that is being hailed from the left and right as setting in motion the operation that got Bin Laden. It rubbed Bush the wrong way."

But here's the real reason why Obama deserves sole credit as the president as opposed to spreading over two or three presidents.

The standing President should get as much credit that's commensurate with as much blame he would have gotten if the mission had went to shit.

As far as we know this is what happened:

  •  Intelligence was able to piece together circumstantial evidence based primarily off a NICKNAME that was given up some seven years ago during KSM's torture session (supposedly). GOP's Response: "Told you torture worked"

  •   Even with satellite surveillance and such they STILL were only 60-80% sure that OBL was in the compound. GOP response: "That's due to the infrastructure the Bush administration set up years ago!

  •   They purposefully kept Pakistan in the dark about the mission because they didn't trust them.

  •   They went into Pakistan (a sovereign country) without permission.

  •   They killed most of the men and wounded a woman most of whom were NOT armed while storming the compound

  •   There were women and children in the compound and witnesses when they killed OBL.

Obama authorized all of this and with that happening the mission was a success and the move called RISKY. And now the republicans want to give Bush partial if not full credit (if you go by Sarah Palin) for it happening.

Now imagine for a minute if things went 180 degrees the other way and the mission was FUBAR*:

It turns out OBL was NOT in the compound...then that means:
  • They set a mission based on info gathered YEARS ago primarily a NICK NAME (guess that means torture doesn't work huh.). GOP's response: "Really? That's all you had to go on and you still thought it was good idea?? And who's talking about torture we thought that issue was settled..."

  • They were only 60-80% sure OBL was in the compound. GOP's response: "Which means they were only HALF-ASS sure. Is this what passes for leadership in the Obama Administration?"

  • They didn't involve Pakistan in the investigation or the raid nor did they get permission to enter Pakistan. Pakistan would make an international incident out it and the US would have to pay BILLIONS MORE in aid just to shut them up.

  • They killed unarmed people in storming the compound only to find NO OBL. GOP response: "Obama's half ass mission cost innocent lives! The horror...the horror.."

And Obama authorized all of this... now here's the question, do you think republicans would STILL want to include Bush in whats now a colossal clusterfuck?

Or do you think they would pile on and say that Obama was the SOLE reason this whole thing went to shit??

Be honest..

Just to illustrate how the negative always has more of an affect than the positive, things went right on the mission and as a result Obama gets a 10 point bump up in job approval. But that will only last for a few weeks or a couple months at the most before other issues bring those numbers down again. But in the meantime Obama has strengthened his stance on several points. The success of the mission has seemingly shut up Donald Trump for the time being. Palin has marginalized herself because she has no chance of competing well. And the more serious contenders have an uphill battle against the man who killed OBL.

But if things had gone badly on the mission, Obama's reelection bid would be dead in the water now. Everyone would throw their hat into the ring to run against him. And I mean EVERYONE. Trump, Palin, Elmer Fudd, Goofy, they would all smell blood in the water and come running. Hell, the Democratic Party would have to run someone against Obama just to save face.

So the decision to go with what they had and get bin Laden was Obama's call to make and as such his credit to take.
